Spotlight: Travis Bazzana, who this month celebrated his first Major League Baseball home run for the Cleveland Guardians ⚾🇦🇺 Travis Bazzana’s journey began playing tee-ball in Sydney, spending countless hours in the batting cages at Golden Jubilee Oval in Wahroonga honing the skills that would eventually take him to the world stage. He attended Turramurra High School and, at just 16, received his first professional offer from the Detroit Tigers. He could’ve signed immediately and started his Minor League Baseball career, but instead backed himself and set his sights on the US college system. Despite doubts from some about whether an Australian could make it to the top, Bazzana went to Oregon State University, where he studied psychology and became one of the best college baseball players in the country. In 2024, at age 21, he was selected as the first overall pick in the MLB Draft. The first Australian-born player to be selected No.1 in the MLB Draft history. Bazzana is inspiring the next generation of Australian baseball players dreaming of the big leagues. “If you believe and you work toward something with full wholehearted commitment, you can get pretty cool places,” Travis said following his MLB debut. “Hopefully, there’s the next baseball players out of Australia really using this as motivation and as a vision for themselves.” #GlobalAustralians #AustralianAmbition #BackAussies #MLB #travisbazzana
