From Sydney to Wall Street: Forging a Path for the Next Generation
In our latest Global Australian Spotlight, we’re delighted to feature Josephine Linden AM, whose remarkable global career spans finance, business, education and philanthropy. Throughout it all, she has remained deeply connected to Australia and committed to opening doors for the next generation.
When Josephine arrived on Wall Street in the 1980s, she was one of only two women in her Goldman Sachs class. The Sydney-raised Founder and CEO of Linden Global Strategies spent more than 25 years at Goldman Sachs, retiring as a Partner in 2009.
She later taught wealth management at Columbia Business School and today holds leadership roles across business, education and international affairs. She is Chairman of Lands’ End, a Board Member of Innoviva and E&P Financial Group, and a Founding Board Member of Global Australians.
Yet for all the titles and achievements, ask Josephine what has mattered most throughout her career and her answer is simple.
“It is always about the people,” says Josephine.
Breaking into Wall Street as both a woman and a foreigner was not easy. Mentors helped her find her voice, earn her seat at the table and build a successful global career. Now, she is doing the same for those coming behind her.
Through Linden Global Strategies, Josephine has created Fellowship and Internship programs that have given more than 60 young people, including many Australians, the opportunity to gain professional experience, build confidence and pursue their ambitions.
“What saved me were great mentors, men and women alike, who pushed me to be better. Now it is my turn to do the same.”
Throughout her global career, Josephine has remained deeply connected to Australia and committed to opening doors for other Australians.
For Josephine, backing Australians means opening doors, creating a home away from home and helping others rise with you.
